Trip Itinerary

Day 1
Rendez-vous for lunch at the Algonquin Log Cabin at the northwest corner of Algonquin Park. You’ll love the hearty soups, beer bread and salad! Learn to paddle a canoe and feast your eyes on the huge hills of the Algonquin highlands filled with colour. Followed by a hike through the mixed-wood forest of Kitchie Island. Choose to return to the Log Cabin to relax or continue your adventure exploring Surprise Lake by canoe. Wind down the afternoon with a hot drink by the fire, or relax in the sauna with a refreshing dip into the lake. Feast on a gourmet, home-cooked dinner followed by a night paddle in a 26-foot Voyageur Canoe, listening to the sounds of Algonquin.
Day 2
Morning hike through spectacular maple forests to Lookout Bluff with a magnificent view overlooking the fall colours of Algonquin. Return for lunch back at the Log Cabin and spend the afternoon relaxing, exploring Surprise Lake by canoe, swimming, fishing, or reading a book on the porch. Go for a late afternoon paddle to a scenic campfire point for sunset, bonfire and a cook-out dinner. After dinner, learn about the northern sky as you canoe under the stars back to the Log Cabin.
Day 3
Rise and shine for an amazing sunrise paddle through the morning mist. Search for moose or beaver lodges and take advantage of spectacular photography opportunities. Enjoy a cook-out maple syrup breakfast and then return to the Log Cabin for a Canadian-style BBQ lunch. Swim, sauna, and take in the pristine wilderness before an afternoon departure.

Client Testimonials

“We enjoyed day and night canoeing and were blessed with the beautiful autumn colours. It was a very educational, relaxing and satisfying 3 day package. Listen out for the sounds of the falling leaves, this place is amazingly quiet and peaceful.”

Ching

“I went on this trip in September – was perfect timing as there were no bugs, the weather was perfect for hiking and canoeing and the log cabin was super cozy and warm at night! The guides were amazing, the cooking was amazing, the scenery was, you got it, amazing!”

FAQs

It means that our cabin is not hooked up to grid electricity. We operate without the need for electricity aside from filling our water cisterns from our well, for which we use a generator.

There are two indoor bathrooms for the guests to use in the Log Cabin with flushing toilets. All of the water in the building comes from our well and is filtered for drinking before reaching the faucet.

There is a shower in the shower/sauna house was fitted with an electric pump on solar power to  offer solid water pressure.

No.  There is no electricity and no Wifi.   There is  a cell phone repeater tower  within a 5 minute drive where you can get service.

Voyageur Quest’s guides are skilled outdoor professionals who ensure your canoe or cabin trip is an adventure of a lifetime. On top of being well versed in the natural and cultural history of Algonquin Park, our guides are warm, personable, and service-oriented. Most are graduates of post-secondary programs related to outdoor adventure and all possess industry certification in wilderness first aid, life-guarding, and canoe instruction.

You only need to bring your personal items: clothing, toiletries, and cameras. A complete list of what to bring will be emailed to your after booking.

Solo travelers are welcome! Our groups have up to 12 guests per trip. Everyone becomes fast friends while canoeing and hiking!

There are as many as 12 guests on each trip and three staff members. Our guests range in age and nationality. We do our best to sort our guests into like-demographics (ie: families together; adults together). It’s not unusual for guests to be trading emails at the end of their trips – it’s easy to make friends when you’re having so much fun!

You do not require any prior experience. We host a range of guests from first-timers to grizzled outdoors people every week. Our pace is relaxed and the objective is to have fun, slow down, and leave plenty of time to explore the beauty of the Algonquin area.

You should be able to be active for up to four hours (walking pace) at a time. While travelling in the backcountry, we make frequent stops for snacks, hydration, toilet, and to admire the gorgeous views!

We provide fresh and mostly whole-foods meals that are prepared with care and skill. Whether you are in the backcountry or in our Algonquin Log Cabin, you will be served appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Our guests are consistently impressed with our elevated cuisine. Please explain in detail any special dietary needs or allergies you might have during your booking. Kid-friendly foods are added to Family Trips.

We are happy to accommodate  dietary requirements. For more speciality diets such as dairy free, vegan or gluten there is an additional charge.  Please be sure to describe your requirement in detail when making your booking. For severe allergies, it is recommended that you bring 2 EpiPens with you.

Absolutely!   (and enjoy responsibly!)

For canoe trips: best advise is to bring liquor and/or wine. Decant glass bottles or cans into plastic containers. It is forbidden to bring glass or cans into Algonquin Park.

For Algonquin Log Cabin: bring whatever you wish. Best advise is to bring a bag of ice with you as well. Remember: we are off grid – that means no fridge! We can provide you with a cooler to use for your stay.
