2021 Spring/Summer/Fall Canoe Trip Guides/Leaders

Voyageur Quest is looking for canoe guides to work 3 and 5-day canoe trips at the north west corner of Algonquin Park for our 2021 spring/summer and/or fall season. In addition to having an exceptional canoeing tripping background, applicants should have strong leadership skills and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin flora, fauna, night sky and local culture in front of an adult commercial and family market. Solid interpretative and program skills are essential. Our guides love to teach our guests about the wonders of Algonquin Park. Warmth and hospitality skills are essential.

Applicants should have the following certification:

  • Wilderness Advanced First Aid or Wilderness First Responder
  • Life Guarding Certification – Bronze Cross/NL or Swift Water rescue
  • Strong leadership experience in a wilderness environment
  • Exceptionally strong canoe tripping background preferably in a commercial setting
  • Clear and satisfactory criminal record background check
  • Driver’s license strongly preferred
  • ORCKA Canoe Tripping 3 an asset

All Canoe Guides must have:

  • Personal paddle, PFD, tent & personal camping gear used for tripping
  • Comprehensive wilderness first aid kit

    Contracts available from: approx third week in May to Sept end/beginning of Oct 2021
    Training: typically runs third week in May
    Salary: from $150 to $210/day (commensurate with experience) plus tips (direct to staff from guests)
    Accommodation: Lakeside shared cabin accommodation available while off trip.
    Other: Other training opportunities available, fun all staff weekly dinners and a floating sauna!

2021 Spring/Summer/Fall ALGONQUIN LOG CABIN ADVENTURE GUIDE
Voyageur Quest is looking for guides/naturalists to work 3 and 5-day lodge based interpretative programs at the Algonquin Log Cabin and Algonquin Cottage Outpost. Applicants should have strong leadership skills and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin flora, fauna, night sky and local culture in front of an adult commercial and family market. Good interpretative and program skills are essential.

Applicants should have the following certifications:

  • Current Wilderness Advanced First Aid or Wilderness First Responder
  • Current Bronze Cross, NLS or Swift Water Rescue swimming certification
  • Strong leadership experience in a wilderness environment
  • Canoe instruction experience.
  • Driver’s license required
  • Clear criminal record check
  • A car is an asset to get you to and from the Algonquin Log Cabin and for your days off.

Contracts from: early/mid May to mid October, 2021 or August 01 to mid Oct, 2021
Training dates: early May 2021
Salary: from $150-$200/day commensurate with experience plus tips (direct to staff from guests)

2021 Spring/Summer/Fall Algonquin General Operations Manager

2021 Spring/Summer/Fall Algonquin Canoe Trip and Guide Manager 

2021 Spring/Summer/Fall GENERAL OPERATION  “SUPPORT” GUIDE
Voyageur Quest and the Algonquin Log Cabin are looking for outdoor staff to help support our Algonquin canoe and lodge operation. The “support” position helps the guides, the outfitter, the chef and the overall operation fill various gaps on Lodge based wilderness trips or special events including meet and greet customers, canoe lesson, assist in the preparation of meals, dishes, lodge cleaning, assist in outdoor excursions, canoe trailer loading, town run and driving truck with canoe trailer. The position does not require certification but preference is given to candidates with wilderness first aid, driver’s license and canoe instruction experience. The position requires warmth, pride in solid hospitality skills and an enthusiastic attitude to pitch in and help wherever necessary! This is an ideal position for candidates who are looking to begin a career in the adventure travel industry.

  • Teaching canoeing, assist with bonfire dinners and sunrise paddles
  • Driving truck with canoe trailer, loading canoes
  • Assisting in food preparation and dishes
  • Helping with lodge to standard
  • Town runs

2021 Spring/Summer/Fall Algonquin Wilderness Chef

The Voyageur Quest Algonquin Wilderness Chef predominately supports the needs of the Algonquin Log Cabin serving groups of 4 to 18, the Broken Paddle Patio Serving and Special Events. The VQ Wilderness Chef responsibilities include:

  • inventory, ordering, planning, shopping for and delivering food and
  • preparing healthy and tasty meals in an open kitchen

Applicants should have: excellent organization skills, ability to work in a small team and a background/understanding of food, menu, cooking and baking.

Drivers license and car an asset to get to and from work

This full-time position (May-September) is a great opportunity for somebody that is looking for a progressive position within a small wilderness tour company. The Adventure Tour Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the office manager and directors with the office and day to day operations. The work will include:

  • Customer Service and Sales. A customer-service and sales-driven orientation that despite a multi-tasking environment, you are wired for a quick response to phone and email inquiries.
  • Bookings. Database management and entry, invoicing, guest details. An attention to details orientation and ability to follow outlined systematic procedure and understand how administrative tasks fit into the big picture.
  • Marketing and Social Media. Proficiency with various platforms including: Mail Chimp, Hootsuite, Facebook, Instagram, Canva, WordPress/Elementor, work with Images and Videos – ie Adobe Photoshop.
  • Quotes. Proficiency in working with Excel.
  • Communications with the team. Creating Trip manifests (Guest Details)
  • General office – including proficiency with Gmail, Google Docs and Google Calendar etc.

Voyageur Quest is very entrepreneurial. The Adventure Tour Coordinator position carries a lot of responsibility and should be somebody who:

  • holds a University degree or Hospitality/Tourism diploma
  • is able to multitask, detail-oriented.
  • possesses exceptionally strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • is confident and driven to work
  • is able to work in a small home office studio setting and work often on their own or with a small office team. In the summer, opportunities to work at our Algonquin Lakeside Office base located at our Outfitter at Access Point #1.
  • opportunities to develop into more senior roles

 

COMPENSATION:

Starting: $15-20/hour commensurate with experience.

Week 40 hours per week (may include weekends up north and lakeside accommodation)

LOCATION:

Ideally candidate able to work both at our Toronto home studio office (Bayview and Eglinton)* and at our Outfitter at Algonquin Access Point #1 with our team. * Ability to work from home during Covid Stay at home orders

2021 FALL OUTDOOR ED CANOE GUIDE SPECIALISTS

Voyageur Quest is looking for Outdoor Education Specialists and Canoe Guides to work specialty outdoor ed. programs in Algonquin, Killarney and/or the Muskokas. These are high energy programs that are tons of fun and you will certainly enjoy working with our amazing VQ Team.

Required Certifications:
– NL or BRONZE CROSS,
– ORCKA CANOE TRIPPING LEVEL 3
– WILDERNESS ADVANCED FIRST AID (WAFA) or WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER
– CLEAR criminal and vulnerable sector record check

SALARY: $180-$260/day commensurate with experience
