Working outside at Algonquin Park is a great employment opportunity for those of us who love the outdoors. Helping showcase the beauty of our natural world to our wonderful clientele is a great aspect of our outdoor work. Voyageur Quest is recognized by the Canadian Tourism Commission as “best in class” and is a recognized “Signature Experience” provider that specializes in Algonquin Park. Our canoe outfitter, canoe trip operation and three lodge facilities, are all located at Algonquin Park’s northwest corner.

We are presently hiring for the following positions:

2019 Algonquin Canoe Trip Guides/Leaders

Voyageur Quest is looking for canoe guides to work 3 and 5-day canoe trips at the North West corner of Algonquin Park for our 2018 spring/summer and/or fall season. In addition to having an exceptional canoeing tripping background, applicants should have strong leadership skills and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin flora, fauna, night sky and local culture in front of an adult commercial and family market. Solid interpretative and program skills are essential. Our guides love to teach our guests about the wonders of Algonquin Park. Warmth and Hospitality skills are essential.

Applicants should have the following certification:

  • Wilderness First Responder
  • Life Guarding Certification – Bronze Cross/ NLS or Swift Water rescue
  • Strong leadership experience in a wilderness environment
  • Exceptionally strong canoe tripping background preferably in a commercial setting
  • Clear and satisfactory criminal record background check
  • Driver’s license strongly preferred
  • ORCKA Canoe Tripping 3 an asset

    All Canoe Guides must have:

  • Personal Paddle, PFD, tent & personal camping gear used for tripping
  • Comprehensive wilderness First Aid Kit

    Contracts available from: approx third week in May to Sept end/beginning of Oct 2019
    Training: typically runs third week in May
    Salary: from $145 to $200/day (commensurate with experience) plus tips (direct to staff from guests)
    Accommodation: Lakeside shared cabin accommodation available while off trip.
    Other: Other training opportunities available, fun all staff weekly dinners and a floating sauna!

    2019 Spring/Summer/Fall ALGONQUIN LOG CABIN ADVENTURE GUIDE
    Voyageur Quest is looking for a guides/naturalists to work 3 and 5-day lodge based interpretative programs at the Algonquin Log Cabin and Algonquin Cottage Outpost. Applicants should have strong leadership skills and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin flora, fauna, night sky and local culture in front of an adult commercial and family market. Good interpretative and program skills are essential.

    Applicants should have the following certifications:

    • Current Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder
    • Current Bronze Cross, NLS or Swift Water Rescue swimming certification
    • Strong leadership experience in a wilderness environment
    • Canoe instruction experience.
    • Driver’s license required
    • Clear criminal record check
    • A car is an asset to get you to and from the Algonquin Log Cabin and for your days off.

    Contracts from: mid May to mid October, 2019 or August 01 to mid Oct, 2019
    Training dates: tbd May/June 2019
    Salary: from $155-$210/day commensurate wtiih experience plus tips (direct to staff from guests)
    Accommodation: Seasonal shared lakeside accommodation available

    2019 Spring/Summer/Fall Algonquin Wilderness Chef

    The Voyageur Quest Algonquin Wilderness Chef predominately supports the needs of the Algonquin Log Cabin serving groups of 4 to 18, the Broken Paddle Patio Serving and Special Events. The VQ Wilderness Chef responsibilities include:

    • inventory, ordering, planning, shopping for and delivering food and
    • preparing healthy and tasty meals in an open kitchen

    Applicants should have: excellent organization skills, ability to work in a small team and a background/understanding of food, menu, cooking and baking.

    Drivers license and Car an asset to get to and from work

    2019 ALGONQUIN OPERATION and PROGRAM “SUPPORT”
    Voyageur Quest and the Algonquin Log Cabin are looking for outdoor staff to help support our Algonquin canoe and lodge operation. The “support” position helps the guides, the outfitter, the chef and the overall operation fill various gaps on Lodge based wilderness trips or special events including meet and greet customers, canoe lesson, assist in the preparation of meals, dishes, lodge cleaning, assist in outdoor excursions, canoe trailer loading, town run and driving truck with canoe trailer. The position does not require certification but preference is given to candidates with wilderness first aid, drivers license and canoe instruction experience. The position requires warmth, pride in solid hospitality skills and an enthusiastic attitude to pitch in and help wherever necessary! This is an ideal position for candidates who are looking to begin a career in the adventure travel industry.

    • Teaching canoeing, assist with bonfire dinners and sunrise paddles
    • Driving truck with canoe trailer, loading canoes
    • Assisting in food preparation and dishes
    • Helping with lodge to standard
    • Town runs

    • Wilderness first aid
    • Bronze Cross

    Mid May to beginning of Oct, 2019 and
    August 01 to beginning of Oct, 2019
    Mid May to Labor day, 2019 for those going back to school

    Salary: $150-$180 /day commensurate with experience

    2019 FALL OUTDOOR ED SPECIALISTS AND WILDERNESS GUIDES

    Voyageur Quest is looking for Outdoor Education Specialists and Canoe Guides to work specialty outdoor ed. programs in Algonquin, Killarney and/or the Muskokas. These are high energy programs that are tons of fun and you will certainly enjoy working with our amazing VQ Team.

    Required Certifications:
    – BRONZE CROSS or NL,
    – ORCKA CANOE TRIPPING LEVEL 2/3 or Day-tripper
    – WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER or WILDERNESS FIRST AID
    – CLEAR criminal record check

    AVAILABLE CONTRACT DATES:
    • September 9-14, 2019 AND/OR September 23-28, 2019
    • mid-August–September 28, 2019 also available if interested in longer general contract

    SALARY: $160-$260/day commensurate with experience

    2019/2020 Winter Season


    2019/2020 Algonquin Log Cabin Adventure Guides
    Voyageur Quest is looking for winter guides to work 3 and 5-day adventures at the North West corner of Algonquin Park at our Algonquin Log Cabin. Applicants should have strong leadership skills and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin Park, night sky and local culture in front of an adult commercial and family market. Good interpretative and program skills are essential as is the ability to snowshoe and backcountry ski.

    As a member of the Voyageur Quest guiding team, you will be exposed to a fast-paced, dynamic, and challenging environment whereby your organizational and planning skills will enhance the outdoor wilderness experience for first timers as well as seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. At VQ, you will be working with a small team of skilled outdoor professionals delivering internationally acclaimed and nationally awarded programs and services to clientele from around the world. VQ’s comprehensive training program will familiarize you with the local environment as well as provide you with opportunities to further develop your outdoor wilderness skills.

    In addition to having exceptional wilderness guiding backgrounds, applicants should have strong leadership skills and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin flora, fauna, night sky and local culture in front of an adult commercial and family market.     Winter Applicants should have the following certification:

    • Wilderness First Responder/Wilderness First Aid
    • NLS/Bronze Cross mandatory for Summer guiding preferred.
    • Strong leadership experience in a wilderness environment

    All Winter Guides have:

    • Personal snowshoes, backcountry skis
    • Comprehensive wilderness First Aid Kit
    • Driver’s license preferred (personal vehicle a plus for days off)
    • Current and clear Criminal Records Check
    • energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and compassion
    • availability Dec 8-Jan 3 is essential with winter training and busy Christmas holidays

    Salary: $150-$190/day (commensurate with experience and certification) plus tips
    Dates: Start with training early in December 2019 (weather dependant) season runs to March 2020
    Opportunity to extend to spring/summer/fall contracts
