Winter at Algonquin Park is spectacular! If you love snow, join us at the Algonquin Log Cabin for 3-4 action packed days dog sledding, snowshoeing and back country skiing. Located on Surprise Lake 8km from the northwest corner of Algonquin Park, the Algonquin Log Cabin features the warmth of an authentic log cabin in a spectacular wilderness setting.
Our snowshoe and backcountry ski trail network leave right from the Algonquin Log cabin front porch. Strap on a set of our lightweight snowshoes and head for the beaver trail lookout. Or try our traditional wooden snowshoes that provide the necessary loft to wade through the waist high snow of the Ridge trail. On sunny days, head for a scenic lake ski down Surprise Lake and warm up with a cup of tea in the heated wall tent. The island trail is ideal for beginner cross country skiers. Intermediate and advanced skiers love the big hills including our famous Kettle lake – cardiac hill loop.
Keen to try dog sledding? Our award winning 3 day Algonquin Log cabin winter adventure includes a dogsledding day trip where you learn dogsled commands, how to harness, followed by a 4 hour day trip.
The log cabin is ideal for those people looking for an Algonquin Park active and fun winter adventure with a comfortable bed at the end of the day. You will love our meals! Hearty soups, fresh breads , stews and massive breakfasts will keep you smiling! The cabin is rustic and does not have electricity. A massive 36 foot stone fireplace , candles, propane lights and kerosene lanterns add to the cozy ambiance. Nothing beats a sauna after a day on snowshoes or skis. Heat up and return for a glass of wine in front of the roaring fireplace.
