Our guides, naturalists and office receive a lot of questions about the liklihood of seeing a black bear on one of our Algonquin Park trips and what to do if it happens. White it is rare to see a bear on a 3 or 5 Day Algonquin canoe trips, it is not unusual to see black bears around both the Algonquin Log Cabin and the Algonquin Cottage Outpost.

Voyageur Quest Guides- where are they now ?

For those of you who have been on a Voyageur Quest Algonquin Canoe trip between
2003 and 2005 will remember Matt Gawler. "Rock n' Roll Matt" played many roles for our Algonquin operation including driving Toronto shuttles, working special events and of course guiding 3 and 5 day Algonquin canoe trips. Matt dropped by last week to annouce his exciting news that he is off to Australia for 3 years to work for a wilderness school in the Outback.

Countdown to summer at the cottage!

With a few 30 degree days behind us, it sure feels like summer! Ben (7) and Ana (4) swung into our office this afternoon with popsicles asking when we are all going to the cottage. They are so excited about going north... They are buzzing about talking about swimming to the raft “by them self!”, catching “big bass” and building “secret forts on the forest trail.”

My family is part of the great Canadian summer tradition of leaving the city for a cottage or “camp” or somewhere on or near a fresh water lake. The Globe and Mail reported two weeks ago that one out of every 10 Canadians has a family cottage and another 27% visit, rent or stay at a cottage very summer. Amazing to see these numbers. I also found it interesting to read that the number is rising – especially with new Canadians. Fantastic!

Just booked off the July dates for a family canoe trip to Algonquin with some good family friends. This will be Ana ’s (our 4 year old daugter ) first canoe trip! Route still TBD… considering top of Algonquin, French River or Churchill Islands.
